POTARA KUND

Potara Kund in Mathura is actually a water enclosed area and it is said that mother of Lord Krishna washed his clothes in the Kund. The Potara Kund is made up of huge sandstones and famous temples enclose the area. RANGBHOOMI

Rangbhoomi has great economical significance as it was a part of the Mauryan Empire. According to the legend, Rangbhoomi is the wrestling area where Lord Krishna defeated and killed his maternal uncle Kansa and also freed his parents from the prison. Kansa had kept his sister and husband prisoners and he killed all their children but was unsuccessful in killing Krishna who was saved by his father, Basudev. The Vishram Ghat is close by and it is said that Lord Krishna took rest at this ghat after killing Kansa.

KUSUM SAROVAR

The water of the Sarovar is ideal for swimming so the travelers can spend some quality time here. Manas Sarovar has a number of ashrams and temples nearby and the travelers can attend the evening arti. Radha Kunj is also an important tourist attraction close by.

By Rail

Train services from important locations in India like Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Indore, Hyderabad, Gwalior, Bhopal, Ujjain, Jabalpur, Lucknow, Rewa, Varanasi and Kanpur are available to Mathura. There are four railway stations in Mathura.

By Road

Roadways perfectly join Mathura to the other parts of Uttar Pradesh and India. National Highway 2 which joins Delhi with Howrah runs across the city. It joins with NH 3 (extending to Mumbai) and a segment of this road is known as Mathura Road. National Highway 11 which joins Agra with Bikaner and National Highway 93 joining Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh are major highways as well. Mathura is also joined by Yamuna Expressway.
